I figured out by talking to a USCIS agent that biometrics has been applied to my I-765 application. I want to know how much time does it take to approve EAD after this step? Also, if possible, can you tell me what are the steps in I-765 processing after biometrics?

Is Biometric Required for H4 EAD and i485 EAD? Biometrics are not required if you are filing only H4 -EAD application alone. Biometrics are not required for i-485 EAD and advance parole either. If you are filing both H4 extension and H4 EAD, then the H4 extension needs biometric fingerprints.

Depending on your eligibility category you may also be required to pay a biometrics fee of $85. Cash payment is not acceptable; you must send the money in form of a check or money order. The check/money order should be made out to the Department of Homeland Security.

If you have a biometrics appointment to renew your green card, they will still give you a sticker. But, if you have your green card and haven’t yet gotten a biometrics appointment, the receipt notice is your proof of receipt of the Form I-90 and the extension of your green card, for twelve months.

To explain better: Work Permit EaD probably will take 5-9 months and the Greencard itself between 14-18 months – Driving is essential in the U.S. especially if you’re not living in the heart of a large city like we do, I had a class A license which means I was driving semi trucks before and now it all seems to be wiped out and I’m treated as if I just came from a developing country (no offense)

They should use your existing biometrics for the extension… in fact, it’s unclear to me why they require photographs, since they aren’t used for the card anymore. If you do end up with an RFE and on a crunch for the extension, the fallback option is to try for an InfoPass appointment at your local office, but they won’t give you that until a couple weeks before your card expires.
