All passports issued in the United States of America since 2007 have been ePassports. Given that U.S. passports are valid for 10 years, all valid American passports should now be biometric passports. The new US passport design for 2016 will embed the biometric chip in the information page of the passport, protected by a thin coating of polycarbonate (the same material used to make bulletproof windows.) 2016 is also the year that the last non-biometric US passports will expire, so by the end of the year, all valid US passports will be e-passports with the biometric chip.
