The most common, at least in home security, are fingerprints. Just as law enforcement uses fingerprints as a method to help positively identify a person, biometrics uses these same methods to identify a person and either grant or deny access to an area. How Does a Fingerprint Door Lock Work?

These locks are generally considered the most secure option of all common security door locks. They simply require an authorized user access based on a bodily trait. There is no key that you have to worry about losing and it can’t be picked. As with anything, there are some cons to biometric fingerprint locks.

I am a big proponent of biometric door locks and safes, however I think two factor authentication is even more imperative. For example a fingerprint scanner and a combo pad lock. I know it adds more time to gain entry, but it is one of the most secure methods of locking a room or safe down.

There is a downside to biometric door locks, and it’s the same one that any electronic locking mechanism faces, and we’ll get to that soon enough. Under normal circumstances, they are indeed very secure.
