If you received a biometrics appointment notice but missed your appointment, you have several options. First, if the missed appointment was recent (less than a week ago), you can simply check the "request for rescheduling" box midway down the application and mail it to the address shown. USCIS will send you a new biometrics notice, but it might take several weeks to do so.

USCIS will use the biometrics to confirm the identity of the applicants and to conduct the necessary background checks. Applicants need to make sure they do not miss their biometrics appointment. USCIS allows applicants to reschedule their appointments to a later date if they may not be able to appear for the scheduled appointment.

Keep in mind that USCIS recommends cancelling and rescheduling your appointment if you are feeling sick. What if I cannot make the biometrics appointment with USCIS? Fortunately, not being able to attend your biometrics appointment is not as critical as missing your actual interview date. If you cannot make your biometrics appointment, you might be able to do a “walk-in” appointment.

I would submit a compelling reason, yes. As to what that compelling reason can be, that I cannot say, but something reasonable as to why she cannot make the appointment. As to how long it takes after biometrics, that's hard to say as well, probably at least 30 days but more likely 60 to 90 days.

We tried to get in touch with USCIS but they just gave us a call-back today 2/21 which was too late. We have been waiting for the appointment since August and aren't sure how to proceed. We tried asking the Tier 2 agent to reschedule us for a biometrics appointment, but she said they could no longer do that because their computer system won't let them.

They should give you another appointment if you have missed your biometric appointment BUT if you have already had your i485 denied because of this DO NOT waste your time like i did and set up an info pass appointment because all youll get is someone telling you what you already know.

Although rare, it does occasionally happen that USCIS does not properly record the request for rescheduling of the appointment, and erroneously determines that the applicant has missed his/her biometrics appointment. A denial notice is then generated for the Adjustment of Status application, stating it has been denied due to abandonment.
