Biometrics data is considered valid for a period of 15 months. Therefore, it's very common for applicants to attend multiple biometrics appointment. This can occur if an application or petition is pending for several months or the person has requested a separate immigration benefit from USCIS.

Generally, individuals have their biometrics collected by appointment at an Applicant Support Center (ASC). In limited cases, at the discretion of the agency, USCIS may make special arrangements to collect biometrics from those who cannot attend scheduled ASC appointments in person, due to disability or other health reasons.

Attending the biometrics screening together as a family is not always possible, though. If you are applying for immigration status with your family members and you receive a biometrics notice, but your applicant family members do not, it might be possible for you all to attend the biometrics appointment together.

The officer wouldn't allow me to take my biometrics even though there were only 2 people in the line. I tried to reason with her but her response was, "Even if I wanted to, the system wouldn't let me if you don't have an appointment.", which was total bull. Click to expand... Wow, just wow. I guess each states varies.

With COVID-19, USCIS offices and ASCs were closed and none of the H4 or H4+ EAD applicants could give biometrics. USCIS indicated that they would be able to reuse old biometrics, if someone had given the same in past…There was no full press alert by USICS on the same. So, we had no confirmation on the same from community.

I would submit a compelling reason, yes. As to what that compelling reason can be, that I cannot say, but something reasonable as to why she cannot make the appointment. As to how long it takes after biometrics, that's hard to say as well, probably at least 30 days but more likely 60 to 90 days.

If you are in the U.S., you can attend your biometrics appointment at the local USCIS office. If you are abroad, you will go to the local U.S. consulate or embassy processing your application. This will typically take place directly after your green card or visa interview. There is no need to worry.
