USCIS will use the biometrics to confirm the identity of the applicants and to conduct the necessary background checks. Applicants need to make sure they do not miss their biometrics appointment. USCIS allows applicants to reschedule their appointments to a later date if they may not be able to appear for the scheduled appointment.

The biometrics appointment, also known as a biometrics screening, is generally a short and easy appointment (15-30 minutes). Here, USCIS will collect your fingerprints, photograph, and digital signature to confirm your identity and perform background and security checks. The appointment notice you received prior to your appointment will tell you what you are required to bring.

Solution: Except in very rare cases, you have no option but to return to the U.S. and provide your biometrics. You have the option to walk-in or reschedule as described above if you cannot attend the appointment as scheduled. If you do not attend, your application will be denied.

However, if you received your receipt notice and never received a biometrics notice, the biometrics notice might have been lost in the mail. In that case, you can again contact USCIS by phone to request a new appointment date. You can also submit an e-request using the case number on your receipt with an online case inquiry.
