USCIS may place a biometrics notice code in the upper right corner of your biometrics appointment notice (I-797C). This code is an internal note to the Application Support Center employee, indicating what data is needed. Code 1: USCIS will collect a set of all ten fingerprints.

If your child is not listed on the notice, then they do not need to attend the biometrics appointment. If USCIS listed your child's name on the biometrics notice, they need your child's biometrics information to process your child’s application. If your child is applying for a Green Card, the ASC may also need to take their photo for the card.

Once done with the biometrics appointment, you will receive another appointment notice from USCIS for your naturalization interview. Do everything possible to attend the interview time that is scheduled for you, as rescheduling the interview may add several months to the naturalization process.

You can expect to be scheduled for your biometric service appointment at a local ASC within weeks or months after submitting your N-400. Another change is that USCIS used to waive the fingerprint requirement for applicants who were age 75 or older, which meant they were not required to appear at an ASC.
