As most of you know, Biometrics is required as part of the New I-539 form and you need to visit Application Support Center (ASC) for the same. Before COVID-19, it was a very straightforward process, but since COVID-19, USCIS has given many updates that also includes changes to process on how they handle Biometrics.

USCIS guidance is that they will adjudicate it soon after biometrics are done. You get H4 Application Receipt along with H1B and EAD receipts; You get the H4 Biometric Receipt physical copy in snail mail to visit Application Service Center (ASC) that has date and time. If you cannot make it on the given day, you can request for re-scheduling.

If you mailed your application then you can do this at either the post office for a small fee or book into your nearest Premium Service Centre. Once the application has been approved the card will be issued.

We believe as biometrics become mainstream you too will take securing your biometric vectors seriously. You may not have to worry that someone is going to poke out your eye to use it like in Demolition Man, but you do have to worry that a database can be broken into and your fingerprints can be stolen. Criminals are always looking to exploit new technology in anyway they can.

Preparing for Your Biometric Services Appointment After you file your application, petition, or request, we will schedule your biometric services appointment at a local Application Support Center (ASC) if you need to provide your fingerprints, photograph, and/or signature.
Sometimes the background checks take a bit longer than others-this is particularly true when you have a common name. For whatever reason, I've noticed cases to take somewhat longer during the summer months. As long as you have a clean record, I would not worry too much about time between the biometrics and the interview.
