How Biometric Systems Work. Biometric time and attendance systems use the fingerprints of employees to verify who is actually clocking in and clocking out of work each day. The system scans the finger of the employee, coordinates are determined and then the system maps the endpoints and intersections of the fingerprint.

A biometric time and attendance system is completely safe and secure to use. It can only be used, and data accessed, by the employer. For further peace of mind, systems can typically only be used for tracking time and attendance and providing access to employees to certain areas of the building.

How does Biometric work? Biometric systems use fingerprints of the employee to verify the identity of the person clocking in and out. The fingerprint of the employee is scanned, the endpoints and intersections of the fingerprint are matched with the record present in the database and accordingly, the access is granted.

Biometric attendance systems use multispectral sensors that can scan fingerprints accurately. These biometric attendance systems use different wavelengths of light that enhance the quality of data that is captured. Both the surface and subsurface of the fingerprint are stored by the system. There are two main components included in the sensor.

In this Fingerprint Sensor Based Biometric Attendance System using Arduino, we used a Fingerprint Sensor module to authenticate a true person or employee by taking their finger input in the system. Here we are using 4 push buttons to register new fingerprint or delete stored fingerprint or match stored fingerprint.

During authentication, for staff attendance, a staff supply his/her department and name, then places his/her finger over the fingerprint reader, the fingerprint recognition unit compares the fingerprint features with those stored in the database, after a successful match, the staff’s employee number is sent to the database alongside the time of making such an attendance and update the status (either present/absent) of user’s attendance for the day.
