Basically, you record your biometric information, in this case a fingerprint. The information is then stored, to be accessed later for comparison with “live” information. Anyone else in the world can put their finger on your device’s touch circle and it’s highly unlikely to open your phone. Fingerprints are just one form of biometrics.

You can unlock your phone by drawing this pattern on the screen with your finger. Patterns are definitely the most convenient option, but they are also the weakest option for authentication, as they further reduce the potential combination of digits and can be guessed by someone observing you unlock your phone or even by the smudge marks left behind by your finger after swiping the pattern.

Biometric authentications are also safe security measures but compared to manually inputted PIN, they are easier to crack. Fingerprint and Face ID are, no doubts, quick methods of authentication but you shouldn’t use them for everything. Know when to turn them off and when to use them.

If your family or friends occasionally use your phone, register additional fingerprints so they can unlock it too. You can add up to four different fingerprints. From Settings, tap Biometrics and security, and then tap Fingerprints. Enter your secure screen lock credentials. Tap Add fingerprint.
